Crystal-Based X-ray Interferometry and Its Application to Phase-Contrast X-ray Imaging, Zeff Imaging, and X-ray Thermography

Crystal-based X-ray interferometry (CXI) detects phase shifts by using the superposition of waves, and its sensitivity is highest among other phase-detecting methods. Therefore, phase-contrast imaging (PCXI) CXI has density resolution PCXI methods enables fine, non-destructive observation with a below sub-mg/cm3. It thus been applied in wide range fields, including biology, medicine, geology, industry, such as visualization testis brains aged rats tumors, human embryos at each Carnegie stage, air hydrates old Antarctic ice, ion distribution electrolytes. Novel have also developed to take advantage high sensitivity, effective atomic number (Zeff) three-dimensional temperature samples. This article reviews principles history crystal-based interferometers, well system synchrotron radiation potential applications from biomedical industrial.
